Why to do dhyaan
Why do Dhyaan ?
At a high level one might feel that doing meditation can help in better focus. Better focus is considered good for work. And the equation of “ If you are focussed you will do less mistakes” also makes sense. But we do not need a lot of focus for all sorts of things, do we? We often see the best performers are good at multitasking, one way to justify is that they, through practice, have made their context switching fast. And they stay focussed on the work that they do in that small window. SO multi tasking is not actually parallel tasking, it is more like segmented quick context switching.
But not all tasks need a huge amount of focus! some people don’t have work that require a lot of focus, their work becomes muscle memory and they do the right things automatically. So the effort put on learning focus, has a diminishing rate of return. If you are not having ADHD, you can make do in life, why invest time in meditation when you don’t face focus issues disrupting your life?
So doing meditation just for focus, feels like a wrong pitch made to wow the wrong audience.
In jainism, karma bandh happens due to Yog, ie. Act. Any mental, verbal or physical act leads to influx of karm(the yog decides variety and qty of karma particles), the intensity and variety of emotions work as glue (which decides the intensity and duration of the karm bandhan).
Aatma’s true state is ayog state, but is acheived in 14th gunstan of ayog kevali. As long as we have a body, yog will happen. Even in 13th gunstan, Arihant still are called sayog kevali, meaning they also indulge in yog. Their kashay however is so low, that the karm doesn’t stick, else they could never go to moksha coz they continue to do yog as long as they have a body.
We are way lower in the gunsthan ladder, we can obviously not refrain from yog, and keeping low or no kashay as Arihant is an almost unacheivable feat for us sansaarik jeev. But we can minimize both.
Dhyaan requires one to stick to one activity, one yog. this trains our mind to stick to one yog at a time. Meaning we minimize yog. If we do dhyaan oon aatma’s tru essence, and on dharm related subjects, our kaashay also lowers during dhyaan and revising the concepts during dhyaan can strengthen our undertsanding and significance of those concepts. Which further pushes those concepts to our subconcious, facilitating in lower kashay even in autopilot.
It further trains the nuerons in our brain to do one thing at a time, limiting the yog in our lives as well. Not drifting in multiple thoughts that can cause more influx.
NEED TO ADD MORE TO THIS, and include things like how dhyaan leads to nirjara, etc.
