Paryay Parinam

Transformation

  1. Prayoga Parinama : This is "caused" transformation. It happens when an external force or a conscious effort acts upon a substance (Dravya), leading to a change in its state or mode (Paryaya).
    1. In Matter (Pudgala): Creating a pot from clay or building a machine involves Prayoga-Parinama. Or Like pudgal which is taken in as #food and transformed into body form by vital processes of living beings, falls in this category.

    2. In Soul (Jiva): Spiritual practices like meditation, knowledge-seeking (Jnana), or cultivation of conduct (Shila) are considered Prayoga because they are initiated by the soul's effort or guided by a teacher.

    3. In Bondage: Prayoga-bandha is a specific term for karmic bondage that is "acquired" through specific deeds and external influences

  2. Visrasa Parinama : "natural" or spontaneous transformation. It occurs without any external effort or intervention.
    • In Matter: The natural formation of clouds or the changing of seasons.
    • In Soul: The natural state of a soul's inherent qualities (like its capacity for infinite space-points) when not influenced by karmic matter.
  3. Misra parinam : - Changes that result from a combination of both natural processes and external effort. For example, the growth of a plant involves both its natural biological properties (Visrasa) and external factors like human cultivation or watering (Prayoga).
